Botanical Perfumery is the art of using plant therapy in aromatic form. It weaves together the ancient practice of creating plant essences to bring those valuable healing frequencies into a convenient and beautiful context. Humans have harnessed these vital plant essences for healing, ritual & ceremony, and now, we are seeing a return and revival to previous traditions of respecting the planet’s vitality and how it sustains us all.
I feel Botanical Perfumery and aromatic traditions of Plant Therapy as an honouring of this connection we have to our Mother Earth. Each time we anoint ourselves we are sending a silent invocation to the ever-present energy of our beautiful planet, telling her how wondrous she is, thanking her for all her gifts and enjoying her immense strength, potency and nurturing of our existence.
The difference between Botanical Perfumery and mainstream perfume production is quite simple; Botanical Perfumery uses absolutely no synthetically manufactured ingredients in making perfume blends. Absolutely no petro-chemical derivatives or animal by-products are used to create a perfume or ingredient (reserving the use of abandoned or ethically collected honeycomb used for tincturing or creating solid perfumes).
Building a mental reference, or your ‘mental encyclopedia’, of aromatics is something to explore and enjoy, and I feel also that it will bring your ‘natural compass’ back online, allowing you to identify synthetics easily, and avoid them.
In my perfumes I have created a weave of plant therapies incorporating essential oils (absolutes, steam distilled and CO2 extracted), distilled resins, macerated botanicals, infusions and essences. Each blend begins as a collection of ‘accords’, which are often between 3 and 8 different oils (but can become immense compositions of 20+ ingredients), resins or infusions, brought together to form one particular Energy Signature. Then a scent begins to form, from some inspiration, intuition or information…the accords are added in sequence as the scent is constructed. The process is different each time, and from this a unique perfume is brought into being.
When these are blended with tinctures of botanical ingredients they produce a Parfum (eau de parfum or EDP); a potent blend of perfume oil in pure alcohol. When we dilute this kind of blend we get a Cologne (eau de cologne) which is a softer blend and suitable for a delicate scent layer.
I take part in every facet of the production of the perfumes I make. They are hand blended, matured, bottled and packaged by the maker (me), produced in boutique quantities with care and attention, in Queensland, Australia.
Thank you for choosing real natural and botanic.
